The All New FredHQ

I once again decided that I needed a blog. So far, my history on maintaining such things is an astounding 0 for… a lot. Twenty, maybe? But whatever. I’ve had a lot of fun building this thing from scratch, and I’m pumped to finally be able to show you around. Shall we?

A Screenshot of Shock! in Action

Shock!

I’m calling the homepage feature area “Shock!” I like the idea of being able to completely throw off the template of the site and do something a little different. There won’t always be something in the Shock! area, but hopefully when there is something there you won’t miss it.

Flexible Layouts

This site has been painstakingly designed to fit and work virtually anywhere, with an emphasis on modern browsers. Try it out, resize your browser so that it’s smaller. If you’re using a browser that supports it, things will adjust. Visit on your phone, try it on your iPad. They should all work.

This was all completely inspired by attending An Event Apart 2010 in Boston. Talks by Dan Cedarholm, Jeremy Keith and Ethan Marcotte among others all played a big part in the knowledge needed to code this design. I don’t expect any of those people to ever visit, but if they do: a huge thanks for the inspiration.

Projects

Projects are now no longer the main focus of my site, although I anticipate that they’ll still account for most of the traffic. The projects section is a little more standalone this time around.

No new projects have been added (yet), and things there should feel pretty familiar; I do have a couple of things possibly in the works.

Short URLs

All Fredline pages come with a nice and short, sharable fhq.co URL that you can count on not changing. Link to them! Use them!

Fredlines

I’ve been watching as blogging platforms come about, and I think I like the direction of what I’m seeing. That said, there weren’t any out there that really fit me, so I built my own. I have a bunch of different types of content types that can come about. There are journal entries (normal blog posts), reviews, videos, recipes, top 10 lists, quotes, and a couple more.

I hope to add new content types as they come about, although I think there is a good mix of things to get started.

So What Do You Think?

I’d love to hear what you think about this place. Send me an email or find me on a social network or two.
